About Us

WEDG stands for World Education Development Group (Kent), and is a membership charity organisation that was founded in 1986.

WEDG is a Development Education Centre, and a member of the DEA (Development Education Association).

WEDG works with other organisations at a local, regional and national level to promote understanding of issues surrounding development in many parts of the world.

WEDG has financial support from DfID, and other grant awarding bodies.

WEDG is part of the Department for International Development (DfID) funded initiative Local4Global, a consortium of teachers and other educators building a learning community for the global dimension in the south east region www.local4global.org.uk

Develop people's skills, knowledge and understanding of the world by exploring issues such as inequality, conflict and sustainability

Encourage people to challenge assumptions, and stereotypes and to make links between countries South and North

Enable people to discuss, challenge and co-operate leading to taking an active role in local and global issues

Celebrate cultural diversity and the arts of the peoples of the Global South
