"My Dad says..." Dover Grammar School for Boys are student competition winners

On Friday 27 January 2012 at the University of Kent, six teams of young people presented their 'news reports' to the Conference taking the theme of 'Money Migration and Me' as their starting point.

Participants at the Conference heard from Liz Hayes, project leader about what  "My Dad says..." had set out to achieve and how together with the teachers, schemes of work were developed and delivered. The same students were followed through Year 7 - 9 and the impact on students and teachers alike was assessed by Lindsey Cameron and her team from the Psychology Department at the University of Kent.  Preliminary findings were presented at Conference.

Ralph Leighton, Principal Lecturer in Citizenship at Canterbury Christ Church University and finalist judge said,

'All the presentations show that the students have got it - this project demonstrates that young people can tackle complex global issues in today's world. '

He added, 'The winning team had a depth of understanding, and confidence in their knowledge that impressed the judges.'
