Workshops

WEDG can provide a wide range of informative and enjoyable workshops on topics linked to Geography, Religious Education, Citizenship, Art, and Music. They can fit in with your topic, help to introduce the global dimension to your teaching or form part of a Global Awareness Week.

Workshops are 50 - 60 minutes, with a maximum of four sessions per day unless otherwise stated.

Workshops cost £185 per day (£95 half day), plus cost of consumables where applicable. We can customise workshops and assemblies to suit you. Please contact WEDG to discuss your needs.

What does it really mean to be a Sikh?

Learn about: The Ten Gurus, the five Ks, how to wear a turban, the Sikh temple, the meaning behind symbolism in Sikhism, the history of Sikhism and Sikh communities around the world.

This new workshop is taught by Soni, a practising Sikh. Artefacts will be provided and children will have a chance to have their questions answered.

Loos, poos and lots of germs!

This workshop deals with a serious issue of access to clean water and sanitation in a fun way, with a lively mix of jokes, films, games and a quiz. Children have a chance to become health campaigners and water engineers, and find out how we can make a difference to the health of others living far away.

Fits in with Science, Geography, Art and Technology.

Up the Chimney and Down the Mine

A workshop about child labour, that involves role play, photos, debate and other activities to encourage empathy and explore what child labour means for millions of children. Children will discuss whether child labour is always bad for children and consider how they would feel if they had to work.

This workshop is aimed at Upper Primary.

East African Market Place

A typical market day is presented to the children, featuring food and everyday essential items - some familiar, others different. Children will have a chance to handle and discuss the items, then complete a crosword about the market.

Growing up in India

What is everyday life for a child in India? Learn about clothes, cooking and school using artefacts and hands on activities. Children will have a chance to ask questions and find out about similarities as well as differences between the lives of children in the UK and India.

West African Symbols and Printing

Symbols are a part of every culture. Discover through everyday artefacts what the symbols mean before trying your hand at printing.

African Fabric Painting

African Fabric Painting

Learn about the local materials used, colour and style. Handle artefacts and design your own African piece of fabric painting.

Playground Games from Around the World

Pupils take part in games children play in different countries using simple equipment. They are then challenged to be creative by developing their own games using natural or recycled resources.

Australian Aboriginal Art

There’s more to this art than meets the eye.  Learn about it first hand from a practising artist before creating your own work guided by the techniques, philosophy and principles.

West African Drums

West African Drumming and Story

How does drumming fit into life in Africa today?  Learn through contemporary account and story and then take part in learning different drumming rhythms.

Chinese Calligraphy  Set

Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting

Learn about these traditional arts from a practising artist – the history, the materials, the motifs – before creating your own piece of work.
